Once I had a dream that I was wearing a white dress, and I had been placed in my grave, and people were throwing mud over me. My eyes were closed, but still, I was crying and yelling, but they were unable to hear my voice as if they could not see what was happening to me. My body was frozen, and I could not even move a finger, but I could feel everything. I just could not move. No one could listen to me and continuously throwing mud over me until that hole was filled up, and I was inside, feeling a lot of pressure on me. A small tight place where I could only sit and not stand. The place was so dark that I felt like my heart will come out of my mouth. I was trying to open that place with so much force, pushing the sides with my legs and my arms to open that hole, trying to push the mud upward with my back and arms, but it did not even move a bit. Then I just started crying and crying so hard and loud that my shrieks would reach both ends of this world
But nothing was able to escape that place, not even my voice.
After having that dream, when I woke up, I was completely sweaty and scared. I realized that I had seen my death scene. After that day, I was so scared. Even a thunderstorm could scare the hell out of me. The feeling of fear continued for days, but then after some days, I felt the need to see that dream completely. My curiosity overcame my fear. I wanted to know what would happen after that? What would be the next step?
I thought genuinely about death. I realized that there is no escape from death. If you are born, then you are ultimately destined to die. Mickel Jackson wanted to live for 150 years, hired doctors and specialists to take his excellent care, but everyone knows what happened to him. He died at the age of 51.
Allah says in the Quran:
Every soul shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is moved away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception (Al-Imran: 185)
I remember a verse from the Quran, not exactly, just a context, that I am going to share. On the day of judgment, people will ask each other how much time have we spent on the earth? One would say that maybe we have spent a mere two days. One would assume that perhaps we have spent some hours of the day, and one would say that I think that we have not even spent a moment on the earth.
So this is the reality of the Life Hereafter compared to the life of this world. This world is like a train station from where we leave after a short break. Only Allah is immortal everything else is mortal. Everything formed shall destroy one day. It is Hadith that if a person dips his finger in the sea and then take it out. then he compares the quantity of water remained on his finger to the amount of water in the sea. This a comparison of the worldly life to the life hereafter.
Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) said:
Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveller on the road.” (Bukhari)
This world is a place of deception. Its luxuries and unparalleled charms blur our eyes out. When we come to this world we think that we have to live here forever. There are a lot of people who in their old ages go for certain surgeries and stuff to stop aging. In fact, aging can never stop. to every start there is an end, in the same way, we will also end one day. How many times in a day do we think about our graves? scarcely ever we think about our death. and you know what, our graves remembers us 70 times a day. 70 times a day! So why are we senselessly ignoring our end and deceiving ourselves even if we know that there is no escape from this reality?
Once Muhammad SAWW came for prayer. He saw a group of people who were laughing very loud. Muhammad SAWW said You would not laugh like this if you think more about your death. Not a day is passed when your grave does not mean that I am a house of loneliness, a house of mud, a home of insects. When a believer enters his grave, it says that I congratulate you on your coming. I liked you more than any man walking on this earth. Now that you have come to me, I will treat you better. After that, the grave expands as far as he can see, and one door opens to Heaven, where the air and fragrance of Heaven come from. On the other hand, when a disbeliever enters his grave, then it says that your coming is inauspicious. You should not have come here. I hated you more than any man walking on the earth. Now that you have come to me, you will see how I treat you. Then the grave presses the person in such a way that its ribs intertwine each other, and seventy dragons are imposed on him; if one dragon hits the ground, it will be left with no grass on it. They will keep biting him till the judgment day. (Fazail e Amaal)
It is very important to remember death and seek forgiveness from Allah as much as possible.
In this modern-day society, we live with such a lifestyle that we are going to exist in this world forever. We snatch other people’s rights to make ourselves superior. All-time we are in worry of getting luxuries of life. Money has become our standard to judge a person, and we prefer cash over ethics and morality. We are so much indulged in earning this world that we have lost our main purpose. We have been sent in this world to imply Allah’s orders here. Almost every person in this country, on a big or small scale, is doing corruption regarding its respective position and according to its capability. A shopkeeper measures goods unjustly just in the same way our leaders are doing unjust measures. Only capabilities and levels are distinguished, injustice is the same as if they have forgotten their death. this is why the Muslim World is facing several crises. we have lost our position and sovereignty. Why are we running in this race? Why are we hastening to gain more and more? Are we going to live here forever? what is the use of all that money if you die after getting it? I am going to leave the answers to these questions over you. Think about it!
