Patience is a virtue and a good attribute that can bring tremendous benefits to our lives. We can create more desirable conditions for ourselves by focusing on Patience and looking to become patient. This article will show us how patient we are, how important Patience is, how Patience can be, and what Islam says about Patience.
What is Patience
Patience and Sabr mean retention of fear and calmness in difficulty. It is a virtue that helps one to accomplish worthy aims and to show calmness through difficult conditions. Patience or Sabr has important values in Islam. Patience means not overreacting to the unhealthy situation that we face in our daily routines, like in offices, classrooms, business, traveling, or while dealing with others. In Sabr and Patience, a person bears someone’s bad behavior, even soothing his mind and coping very politically with him.
In the Quran, Sabr is emphasized again and again. Other words have the same meaning in the Quran, which is eraaz, meaning conflict prevention. Both words, sabr and eraaz, more than 100 times appear in the Qur’an. This illustrates the immense importance of Patience and avoidance in the Quran. Sabr and Patience is a characteristic of prophets (A.S) of Allah and his beloved one’s. So, we can judge the importance of Patience from the given verse of the Quran.
Say, “O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allah is spacious. Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.” (39:10)
Importance of Patience
In order to run the wheel of life in this world, Patience is very important. When we face troubles and obstacles in life, it is human nature to engage in tension. A typical person then acts very harshly and makes such reluctant decisions in the next steps that lead him to defeat. So, Patience is the only and best way to deal with the troubles and problems of life. With Patience and sabr, we can prevent fast decisions with Patience. Life does not mean to exist in the future or in the past. Life is in the moment in which we are living.
We are modern-day creatures. Here every second person is confronted with tension, anxiety, pressure, and stress. All are eager to get better jobs, get admissions to good faculties, make a high standard of living. To achieve all that, we would like a sequence of successes and we don’t even want to hear the word failure. But we all know that failure is a part of life and we learn the lesson that we can gain from failure and then do our utmost again to achieve the goal of life in the hope of Allah. But not, when we fail, we are so pessimistic that we believe everything has finished.
Why is it all to this modern creature? Why we always try to finish our lives on a very smaller failure? Why is everybody hurrying? The answers to all these questions are that We have lost hope in Allah and we behaving impatiently. We have started overreacting on even very small failures. We’re not patiently behaving. We forget the Quran verses which emphasize on Patience.
And be Patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are patient.” (2:153)
Allah loves his creatures. Allah Almighty put us in test to check our Patience and trust. In the Quran, there mentioned how many problems and troubles the Prophets (A.S) had faced. Allah tests the trust and Patience of his beloved ones in different ways. But its right that Allah put more difficulties to those people to whom Allah loves more on Taqwa’s base. So, to act impatiently shows we lost trust in Allah. That is an alarming situation of our trust and Iman in Allah. After all our difficulties, Allah has guaranteed us relief.
After every difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief.
Reward of Patience
In the Qur’an, Allah stated a great reward for Patience. A person who behaves well with a rude man is very close to Allah. We listen occasionally and face really bad words and people’s bad attitudes. It is human nature to get mad about bad words and bad attitudes fo someone’s to whom we talk. We think at some point that he is criticizing me. He is not criticizing you, he is just showing his unethical behavior and reveals his bad character and is actually insulting him. Your exemplary behavior and tolerance will not weaken your esteem, but his respect will be lost.
If someone in this world does not get a reward for Patience, he will surely be rewarded for that patience hereafter that will never end. Muhammad (SAW), said:
“Whoever persists in being patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.” (Al-Bukhari)
Patience in haste world
In this modern and materialist era, Patience and Sabr are very important. Everyone is in haste; in the shortcut way, everybody wants to be a millionaire. In our offices, schools, companies, ventures, places of marketing, bus drivers, travelers, on a very small matter, everybody becomes rude. Nobody wants to go to the real case and figure out how to solve it. Everyone tries to blame others and thus crosses the boundaries of ethics and morality. So, because of the behavior of impatience, both sides make the smaller matter a very large case and this goes to court. So, in this era of stresses and anxieties, Patience is very necessary.
The way to Allah’s mercy is Patience. Today, we need to make a strong connection with Allah for mercy. We have weakened our bond with Allah, and this makes us rude and unethical. It’s time to establish strong links with Allah. If we are patient with life’s pain, we will receive Allah’s best reward.
“And be patient. Surely, Allah is with those who are As-Sabirin.” (Quran,8:46)
“Those will be rewarded with the highest place (in Paradise) because of their patience. Therein they shall be met with greetings and the word of peace and respect.” (Quran, 25:75)
Solve problems with patience
Patience makes people able to solve every problem positively and successfully. When someone explodes with frustration while facing his opponent, he loses the power to react effectively or think about planned actions. But with Patience, he has the competency to move ahead rationally rather than an impulsive reaction.
Being impatient not only leads to excessive frustration, but also to considerable stress and this is also highly dangerous for good health. It’s time to bring inner peace in life and stress less by being patient. In order to achieve inner peace and satisfaction, we must bind our souls to Allah. We should recite the Quran and make the prayers. Warship to Allah brings inner satisfaction and makes a person more powerful and effective in confronting difficulties.
“The believer who mixes with people and bears their annoyance with patience will have a greater reward than the believer who does not mix with people and does not put up with their annoyance.” (Ibn Majah)
The trials and tests we encounter in our difficult times are very much judged. All our disasters and our troubles are character builders that strengthen us more than before. May Allah empower us to face problems with Patience! Ameen!!
